ROUTE DETAILS

Included in the Dun Laoghaire 1500 Celebrations will be a stage of the 1998 Tour de France. The tour begins this year in Dublin.

Planned Events

The French Connection. Dun Laoghaire has been twinned with Brest in the north of France for many years now. With the Tour de France passing through Dun Laoghaire, and the presence of two French Naval Ships in the port, the screen is set for a most enjoyable Cycling/French Festival.

The action starts with an official bicycle race - The Dun Laoghaire Grand Prix - sponsored by Stena Line. There will be a perpetual trophy, Dun Laoghaire 1500 and King Laoghaire trophies along with cash prizes. Organised in conjunction with Pat McQuaid, the organiser of the Tour de France in Ireland, this race will attract some very interesting riders.

Part of the Dun Laoghaire 1500 celebrations includes Street Parties and for the French Week many streets have decided to adopt the French theme. The French sport of Boules will be played with the crew of the ships participating.

The annual French Ball will be held in The British Legion Club located at 3 Croswaite Terrace. The ball kicks off at 8pm. Contact Ann Joyce on 284 1864 for Tickets (£15).
