Great Eastern
Apr 09th, 2008, 9:26am

Hello everybody,
I'm new on the site and not sure to use it in the best way. I'm living in Paris and doing some research about the Great Eastern ship. I read that the maritime museum has many things coming from the Cpt Halpin and I'd like to know more about it but I understood that the museum is closed at this time.
I'd be rally happy to have contact with people interrested or related in some way with this ship.
We expect to organise an exhibit in Paris and all material and informations and good will are welcome !
Regards,
Franck

The Maritime Institute of Ireland were fortunate in receiving many items of Captain Halpin by bequest.
When the museum reopens (which is at least 12 months away) there will be a section devoted to the Great Eastern.  Among the items are a clockwork model of the ship, sections of undersea telegraph cable; magnificent oil paintings by Sam Walters of the Captain and the Ship, many other photos and paintings, Items belonging to the captain: his sextant, his uniform, his sea-chest. and many other artifacts.

Hello,
Thank you for your answer and the informations regarding the Great Eastern Section. I'll surely come to see those items as soon as the museum reopens.
Regards,
Franck
