Mr. John Byrne,
Senior Administrative Officer, Planning Department, Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council, County Hall, Marine Road, Dún Laoghaire. C.C.. Members of the Dún Laoghaire Area Committee. 25th January 2001 Re: Coastal Plan – Booterstown to Sandycove A Chara, On behalf of the community, voluntary and business organisations, members of this Company, I have great pleasure in presenting this comprehensive proposal for the sustainable development of the "Coastal Zone" of the Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County. Over the past two and a half years, this Company has advocated the sustainable and appropriate development, recognition and promotion of this "Coastal Zone" as the main tourism area of the County and now well known, nationally and internationally, as "Dublin’s Riviera". Indeed, the massive development of the tourism potential of the City of Dublin over the past ten years has been a double-edged sword for Dún Laoghaire Rathdown. Many would be visitors to this area now go directly to the City Centre for the variety and number of attractions available to them in places like Temple Bar, however, learning to benefit from Dublin’s proximity is the key to the successful promotion of Dún Laoghaire Rathdown. This proposal challenges the County Council and the business community of the "Coastal Zone" of Dún Laoghaire Rathdown to examine the largely untapped potential for the development and growth of a leisure, recreational and heritage tourism product for Dún Laoghaire Rathdown. Such developments must also meet the needs of the citizens of our County and therefore, add value to the quality of life, the environment and the general appearance of the "Coastal Zone" for both resident and visitor alike. Therefore, I strongly endorse these proposals and commend them to the County Council for adoption and implementation as Phase One of the development of "Dublin’s Riviera". Furthermore, I recommend that a similar study be undertaken by the County Council to cover the coastline from Sandycove to the County boundary as Phase Two of this development of "Dublin’s Riviera". Mise le meas,
