Dún Laoghaire Town Football Club was established in 2002 by the Dún Laoghaire Community Association with the assistance of An Gárda Síochána (Irish Police) and Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council to provide for the sporting needs of the youth and young adults in Central Dún Laoghaire in order to address a dearth in such facilities and to tackle anti-social behaviour including the misuse of proscribed drugs.

The idea for this worthy community support initiative was presented to the Dún Laoghaire Community Association by a very determined local young man, Ian M. Kane. In the foundation of the Club and the promotion of its aims and objectives Ian was very ably assisted by the equally committed Abraham Wahid, a young Nigerian resident of the Old School House Hostel in Dún Laoghaire, who encouraged the young asylum seekers and refugees to join the local Irish lads in this new Club.

"Through the universal love of football, provide an opportunity for integration and social inclusion amongst the young people from many backgrounds, religions and nationalities living in the Central Dún Laoghaire area and through, education and example, promote respect and tolerance for difference, encourage co-operation and unity of purpose and through, teamwork in sport develop lasting bonds of mutual support and friendship as each young person plays with commitment and pride for their own hometown"
