EASON BOOKSHOPS SPONSOR THE DAVOREN HANNA POETRY COMPETITION 2002 Named after the gifted young Dublin poet who died in 1994, the competition offers a first prize of 6,500 Euros, and second and third prizes of 2,500 euros and 1,250 Euros respectively, making it one of the largest such awards in Ireland and the UK. The competition is open to both published and unpublished poets over the age of 18. and entrants may submit as many poems as they wish. The closing date is 31st May 2002, with the winners being announced in early August. First prize in 2001 went to Vona Groake(Ire), with Jeri McCormak (US) taking second and Ayala Kingsley (UK) winning third place. Poets who will appear include Seamus Heaney. Now in it's 8th year, this is the only remaining festival which is totally devoted to poetry. Other Irish poets reading will include Peter Fallon and Eilean Ni Chuilleanain. The festival features the immensely popular English poet Tony Harrison, whose most famous TV poem V was watched by three million viewers on Channel 4 and debated in the House of Commons, and the much-admired Kathleen Jamie from Scotland. This year will also include Jorie Graham and August Kleinzahler, two of America's most praised and influential contemporary poets, and a Keynote Address by Helen Vendler, probably the most famous living critic of English poetry. There will also be workshops and special events for children.
