Rare Art pieces for Local Art Exhibition

A number of rare Mac Gonical pieces of art not seen publicly for over 30 years - will be the centre-piece 'Special Exhibit' at the Oireachtas na Gaeilge Annual Art Exhibition, which opened in the County Hall, Dun Laoghaire, Dublin on March 12th.
Of the 700 pieces of art submitted to the Oireachtas na Gaeilge Art Committee for consideration to be amongst the 100 chosen exhibits, a number of leading Irish artists will have their work shown, and may be amongst the top those who will be receiving this year's five coveted Oireachtas Art Awards.
A number of the country's leading artists in various disciplines will have some of their latest works exhibited. These artists include Cabrini Lynch, whose grandfather was the renowned artist Albert Power. Others include artists such as Brid Lyons, Mary Ann Morton and Anne Donnelly.
Chairman of the Oireachtas Art Committee's Judging panel this year, Mr Ciaran Mac Conghail, said that the standards of all disciplines of art submitted was very high.
The rare Mac Gonical pieces include 'An Saighd, 'Graykerchief',and 'Whaley Abbey'. Mr Ciaran Mac Conghail says that none of these items have been seen publicly for over 30 years, and that the family is delighted to loan their father's work to Oireachtas na Gaeilge for this prestigious annual art exhibition.
Oireachtas na Gaeilge promotes the Irish language. In addition it celebrates through the Irish language the arts, culture, literature, music, dance, theatre, and traditions in Irish annually via a comprehensive programme of competitions and festivals including the annual Art Exhibition, the May Festival, the Annual Literary Awards, and the Halloween Festival.
