Celebrate St Patrick's' Day
Published 19/03/2002This year's St. Patrick's festival 2002 programme begins on Friday 15th March. Thousands of performers will bring you a magical event, combining street theatre with a spectacular finale of fire and water on the river, heralding the beginning of the Festival. This will be on the Liffey Quays at 8.45 pm between O'Connell Bridge & Grattan Bridge.
Saturday 16th March has a special event in Merrion Square from 12-6 pm This will involve fabulous fun and frolics in Ireland's premier street carnival, which includes an inflatable village, a funfair, brilliant street performers and much more. Sensational pop acts will perform a free concert with FM104 DJs. This year's line up includes Picturehouse, Relish, Six, The Walls, Turn, 5th Avenue, Blood or Whiskey and Skindive
Also don't miss the sensational fireworks display, brought to Dublin by the creative team behind the Eiffel Tower Millennium Celebrations. Bring your Walkman, tuned to 98FM.
The 7up skyfest in association with 98FM can be viewed on North & South Quays, from O'Connell Bridge to Lime St/Guild St at 8 pm on Sunday 17th March. On Sunday, the St. Patrick's festival parade will proceed from St. Patrick's Cathedral to Parnell Square. Starting time is 12noon. This year will bring a fantastic array of colourful and creative pageants, marching bands, pomp, ceremony and celebration, on the theme of 'Dream.'
Monday , the 18th march sees a 'Treasure hunt' in the City Centre from 11 am onwards. Have fun and rediscover your city by taking part in a game of urban exploration, played out on the colourful streets of Dublin. Test your knowledge of music, literature and history!
Also DDDA Aquatique in association with Lyric FM will present Aquatique. Taking place in the heart of Dublin's Docklands, this is a stunning spectacle brought to you by 'Millennium Pyrotechnics.' Aquatique is an illusion of enchanting water fountains, magical projections, light, colour, and music.
It will be on George's Quay Thurs to Sun, 8pm - 9pm The Funfair will be open from Friday to Sunday 12 noon - 11pm on Merrion Square West and from Sunday to Monday 11 am -11 pm at the Customs House Quay. The Big Wheel and the Drop Zone will be coming to the city centre for the first time. (N.B. This is the only event at the Festival for which there will be a charge.)
